Security guard fights off robber by hitting him with his helmet

Security guard uses helmet to fight off robber

CCTV showing a security guard using his helmet as a weapon to fight off a robber has been released by police in an attempt to identify the suspect.

The footage above shows the 50-year-old guard swinging his helmet at the suspect and striking him on the arm.

The suspect attacked the guard from behind in the post office in Hampstead High Street, north-west London, punching him in the face.

The suspect, who is white and dressed in a black padded coat with the hood up and half his face covered, can be seen entering the shop and waiting near the counter.

He is then seen in a scuffle with the guard, who tries to fend off the suspect with his makeshift weapon as the thief escapes with the cash delivery.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries to his head and shoulders and was released later that day, Tuesday February 16.

The Metropolitan Police Flying Squad have appealed for witnesses to call 020 8785 8655.
