Man in court after ‘breathing heavily down phone to care homes more than 1,000 times’
Actual number of calls could be much higher, court hears
A man has appeared in court accused of calling care homes and breathing heavily down the line more than 1,000 times.
Sadiq Mansoor appeared at Bradford Crown Court over claims he made some 1,200 of the late-night calls in the space of a year.
However, the 34-year-old’s case was adjourned after the court heard the actual number of calls could be much higher.
Richard Davies, prosecuting, said: “Police have made reference that there may be another six care homes listed and could total more than 16,000 calls.
"In fairness to Mr Mansoor the matter needs to be looked at completely."
The defendant is accused of calling four care homes in Skipton, North Yorkshire, between 1 January and 7 August, 2019.
Four of the eight charges alleged that Mr Mansoor, from Bradford in West Yorkshire, made calls of an indecent or offensive nature for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety to the recipient.
Mr Davies said: “The defendant pursued a course of conduct which amounted to the harassment of staff.”
The prosecution said it was necessary to have a full review of the charges and the dates the allegations referred to and asked for a short adjournment to obtain this information.
No plea has been entered and the case was adjourned until 30 March.
Mr Mansoor was given unconditional bail to appear on that date.
He appeared in Bradford Crown Court on Friday 6 March.
