Camberwell murder: Stabbed teenager dies after being 'dumped from moped' in south London

A teenager suffering from stab wounds died after a moped rider dumped him in a south London street and left him.

Police and paramedics attended the scene and found the victim suffering from life-threatening stab injuries, Scotland Yard said as it launched its 82nd murder investigation of the year.

The 18-year-old, who is yet to be named by authorities, died after he was transported to hospital from the road in Camberwell, it added.

The victim’s next of kin have been informed and a post mortem will take place in due course.

London's Metropolitan Police said initial enquiries suggested the victim had been on a moped with someone else, who dumped him at the scene before driving off.

Members of the public had immediately tried to help, administering first aid until emergency services arrived.

“This is a tragic incident which has resulted in yet another young person being fatally stabbed in London,” said DCI Simon Harding of the force's major crime command.

“We are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, we need to trace the moped and also the person who brought the victim to the scene, it’s important we establish where the victim initially received his injuries. Anyone who saw the moped make off from the scene we equally need to hear from them.”

More than 80 people have died in violent circumstances across the capital since the start of 2018, with at least 53 of that number killed in stabbings.

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, condemned the latest incident on Twitter.

“I'm deeply saddened by the fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old in south London last night,” he wrote. “Such senseless loss of life leaves families & communities devastated.”

No arrests have been made in connection with the case. Enquiries continue.
