The former royal butler Paul Burrell has gained an injunction against The Sun.

The injunction prevents the newspaper publishing further disclosures from a statement Mr Burrell made about Diana, Princess of Wales, lawyers acting for Mr Burrell said.

Details from the 39-page statement were published in The Sun yesterday, revealing that Mr Burrell had smuggled the Princess's lovers into Kensington Palace in the boot of his car and quoting the former butler as saying that she had wanted to marry the heart surgeon Hasnat Khan.

Mr Justice Eady decreed no material be published to create the impression Mr Burrell had disclosed to the media the information in his statement.

Since the collapse of the trial, Mr Burrell has sold his story to the Daily Mirror and Tonight with Trevor McDonald in deals totalling more than £400,000. A spokesman for The Sun said: "We will continue fighting the matter."
