Boy faces governors after teacher shot
A 13-year-old boy who allegedly shot his teacher in the face with a pellet gun will be referred to a disciplinary panel, the chair of the school's governors said today.
Darren Jones, who is head of PE at Maesydderwen Comprehensive School in Ystradgynlais, south Wales, suffered a graze to his face after the incident yesterday.
A teenager was taken into custody after the incident at the 540-pupil school at around 9.30am, Dyfed Powys police said.
The teacher did not require hospital treatment.
Hugh Pattrick, 64, has been head of the governors for more than 10 years and said the incident came as a "huge shock" to the small community.
He said: "The matter will be considered by a school disciplinary panel and it is sad for the youngster because it will be a blot on his life.
"It is a very caring school with a very good pastoral system.
"It is a close-knit community and we pride ourselves on being a caring environment. This has been a huge shock."
Mr Pattrick said: "The head handled the whole thing very well. She gathered all the children in the hall to tell them what had happened.
"A couple of children went home after their parents came to collect them but the school carried on as normal and will continue to do so."
The teenager was still in police custody today, a force spokesman confirmed.
