Police have charged a teenager from Greater Manchester with attempting to acquire a biological toxin or agent.

The 16-year-old was arrested in the Mossley area of Greater Manchester on Monday, as part of an investigation by the North West Counter Terrorism Unit.

He will appear before the Youth Bench at Tameside Magistrates' Court tomorrow, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said in a statement.

A 16-year-old girl was also arrested on Monday after two addresses in Mossley were searched, but she was later released without charge.

Police officers have stressed to the public that there is no intelligence or evidence to suggest that communities within the Mossley or Greater Manchester area are, or were, at risk in relation to the investigation.
