Police were trying to identify a body last night that was found wrapped in a tarpaulin a few miles from where the missing teenager Danielle Jones was last seen.

Workmen from the Blue Circle cement works in Northfleet, north Kent, discovered the body on Friday, nine months after the 15-year-old went missing on her way to catch the school bus in East Tilbury, Essex. The cement works are several miles away on the other side of the river Thames. A post-mortem examination was due to be held today.

Stuart Campbell, of Grays, Essex, the missing teenager's uncle, has been charged with her murder. His trial is due to be held later this year.

* Police searched a secluded area of woodland yesterday after a dog-walker discovered the body of a young black or Asian woman with multiple injuries at Dene Park, near Tonbridge, Kent.
