Suspect arrested after 31-year-old dies of head injuries
A murder inquiry has been launched after a man was battered to death with a baseball bat, police say.
Another man, 35, has been arrested after the 31-year-old suffered fatal head injuries in the attack on Town Street in Batley, West Yorkshire, at around 10pm on Friday, West Yorkshire Police said.
The suspect, from Dewsbury, was detained after going to hospital with stab injuries, the force said. He is in police custody as inquiries continue.
Detective chief inspector Ian Scott said it was an isolated incident and officers were not looking for anyone else.
He said: "Clearly, local residents will be shocked to learn that this has occurred, however, there will be an increased police presence in the area to offer community reassurance.
"Officers also remain at the scene and forensic enquiries are taking place in the immediate area."
