Asda superstore forced to close after man slashed in face and stabbed in back

Another man has been arrested, say police

A man has been taken to hospital after a brutal stabbing outside an Asda supermarket in Yorkshire that forced the retailer to close.

The victim, in his 20s, was stabbed in the back and slashed in the face in the attack in the early hours of Thursday, police said.

The 24-hour superstore in Mill Street West, Dewsbury, remains closed while police investigate, Asda said.

A man has been arrested.

West Yorkshire Police said in a statement that it was called to the shop by paramedics at 4.47am.

The force added: “Officers attended and a male, aged in his 20s, was found with a stab wound to his back and lacerations to his face. He has been taken to hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.

“A man has been arrested on suspicion of s18 assault and remains in police custody.

“Enquiries are ongoing in the Mill Street West area to establish the circumstances and there will be an increased policing presence in the area.”

An Asda spokesman said: “Our Dewsbury store is currently closed whilst we assist police with their inquiries following an incident this morning.

“We would like to thank our colleagues for their quick thinking to call the authorities and our customers for their understanding during this time.”
