£1m reward offered for jewel heist robbers

Police investigating Britain's biggest jewel heist yesterday announced a £1m reward for any information leading to the arrests of the suspects.

Two armed men stole £40m worth of diamond rings, necklaces and watches during a daytime raid on the Graff jewellery store in Mayfair on 6 August.

They took a female staff member hostage and fired two warning shots at members of the public as they made their getaway.

Once inside the New Bond Street store the men, wearing latex disguises, stole 43 items before making off in a blue BMW. One of the men was seen to hand a package to a man on a motorcycle. They then abandoned the BMW and changed to a Mercedes and switched again into a Volkswagen Sharan.

The BMW and the motorcycle have been recovered by the police but officers are still searching for the other cars. The registration plates for the Mercedes – LV06 HFA – and the Volkswagen – RA07 XEV – are known to be cloned but police have appealed to anyone who spots them to report it.

Officers also found a loaded handgun in connection with the incident although it was not the gun fired outside the store.
