From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Shoppers have less than a week left if they want to order Christmas presents online without paying extra charges.

Most major retailers will be taking orders for Christmas until the 18th December for standard delivery options.

Apple, AllBeauty.com, The Body Shop, H. Samuel, House of Fraser and Waterstones all offer standard delivery options in time for Christmas until around the 18th.

After the 18th December – next Thursday – most last-minute present hunters will have to use next-day and express delivery options if they want their gifts to arrive before the 25th.

ASOS, Amazon, Debenhams, House of Fraser, Selfridges and WH Smith are all promising Christmas gift delivery for orders right up until the 23rd December – but only with express delivery.

Shoppers wanting to use standard delivery at ASOS will have run out of time by early next week – Monday the 15th. Amazon’s standard delivery option will do the job until the 19th.
