Phil Pritchard, an anti-roads campaigner, salutes other demonstrators as he heads off into rush- hour traffic in the bucket of a bulldozer. His bumpy ride happened after he climbed into the bucket to try to stop work on the pounds 12m Cradlewell bypass cutting through Jesmond Dene, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Instead of stopping work on the site, he was lifted 15 feet into the air and was forced to cling on as the driver tried repeatedly to tip him out.
Mr Pritchard, 22, jailed for 14 days for his part in the Twyford Down protests, was among 40 campaigners who invaded the Jesmond site. The driver eventually lowered the bucket and released him.
