Breastfeeding 'a turn-off'

WOMEN breastfeeding in public turn men off - and their reaction is putting mothers off feeding babies the way nature intended, says a survey for the Royal College of Midwives.

Men think it is 'embarrassing exhibitionism' and 'disgusting behaviour' with the biggest objections from the 15-24 age group.

The NOP poll shows 57 per cent of men disagree with breastfeeding in public - and half have children in their households.

The royal college says there is a 25 per cent drop in the number of women who carry on breastfeeding six weeks after the birth of their baby.

The men who found breastfeeding the most unacceptable were those in the north of England, and 19 per cent said it should be done only in the privacy of the home.
