Bishop ordained in parish church

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr George Carey, assisted by other bishops before the ritual laying-on of hands and ordination of the new Bishop of Aston, Prebendary John Austin, at his consecration service at St Martin's Parish Church in the Bull Ring, Birmingham, yesterday. It was the first such service held in a parish church, and the first conducted outside London.
