Kenneth Baker, the former Home Secretary and Tory MP for Mole Valley, at his Westminster office yesterday. He said French rejection of the Maastricht treaty would increase the chances of currency realignment in the exchange rate mechanism, give time for reflection on Brussels' federalist momentum - and get rid of 'tension' in the Tory ranks.
