Taylor-Johnson, 34, takes on the role of Russian big-game hunter Sergei Nikolaevich Kravinoff, who appears as a supervillain and anti-hero in the Spider-Man comics, for the upcoming movie.
The teaser sees Hollywood star and Oscar winner, Russell Crowe, as his father, Nikolai Kravinoff, who is described by the synopsis as a “ruthless” man who sends Kraven down “a path of vengeance with brutal consequences”.
Appearing as a gangster figure, Nikolai tells Kraven: “My son, we are hunters, the greatest the world has ever known.”
Kraven is seen entering a prison, where he attacks fellow prisoners, and is told in Russian: “The Hunter is a myth”, and replies in the same language: “There’s an ounce of truth in every myth.”
A montage is seen of Kraven attacking hunters, and in conversation with his brother, Dmitri Smerdyakov, also known as a master of disguise through his alter-ego Chameleon.
As Johnny Cash song The Man Comes Around is heard, the Chameleon says: “You think you have some kind of honour, some kind of code, you’re just another man, hunting for a trophy, just like our father.”
Chameleon is played by The White Lotus actor, Fred Hechinger.
A segment sees a confrontation between Aleksei Sytsevich, a human-rhino hybrid known as the Rhino, who attacks Kraven in a desert landscape amid a stampede of wild animals.
The trailer ends with Nikolai telling Kraven to “embrace who you really are, son”, and “you will become the legend”, and Taylor-Johnson shirtless with a fur jacket.
There also brief glimpses of West Side Story star Ariana DeBose as Calypso, an occasional love interest of Kraven in the comics.
Taylor-Johnson is no stranger to superhero films.
He has been in Marvel films, Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as Pietro Maximoff, the brother of Wanda Maximoff, and rose to fame as the title character in the superhero movie, Kick-Ass.
Kraven The Hunter is directed by A Most Violent Year director JC Chandor and marks the latest instalment in Sony Pictures’ universe of Marvel characters.
The company produces movies based on the comic book characters including the Venom films, starring Tom Hardy, and Morbius with Jared Leto in the title role as the vampire character, as well as Madame Web.
Kraven The Hunter is set for UK cinemas this December.
