Wenger considers move for Wanyama

Arsène Wenger is considering making a bid for the Celtic holding midfielder Victor Wanyama in the coming days as he attempts to improve Arsenal's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League. The Kenyan is thought to be available for around £10m. MORE

The England head coach, Stuart Lancaster, has confirmed that Chris Robshaw will continue his role as captain for the forthcoming Six Nations, which begins with the Calcutta Cup match against Scotland at Twickenham in 11 days' time. MORE

Zambia held by battling Ethiopia

Holders Zambia were held 1-1 by 10-man Ethiopia in the Group C opener at the African Cup of Nations yesterday. Collins Mbesuma put Zambia ahead before Adane Girma equalised. Nigeria drew 1-1 with Burkina Faso in the group's other game. MORE

Smith unlikely to compete this year

Louis Smith is unlikely to return to competitive gymnastics until next year, if at all, according to his Olympic bronze medal-winning team-mate Kristian Thomas. "If he does make a comeback it will be 2014 before we see him," Thomas said. MORE

Pochettino begins with goalless draw

Mauricio Pochettino's first match in charge of Southampton ended in a stalemate last night despite his side having several chances against Everton at St Mary's.

Saints' striker Rickie Lambert went close on four occasions before half-time. Everton's main chance in the match came from Victor Anichebe after the break. The side managed by Pochettino, above, remain 15th in the Premier League. page 50

Lambert: City dig was disrespectful

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has criticised the Bradford City stadium announcer for being "disrespectful" after urging fans to "book hotel rooms for London" after last week's 3-1 win, which Bradford carry into tonight's Capital One Cup semi-final second leg. MORE

Reina could return to Barça in 2014

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina is keen to return to Barcelona to replace Victor Valdes when he leaves at the end of next season, his father Miguel has said. "Pepe would be more than delighted to return to Barcelona," he told radio station La Xarxa. MORE
