Dempsey equaliser leaves Chelsea struggling in sixth

Chelsea missed the chance to go level on points with fellow fourth-place challengers Tottenham and Newcastle after Clint Dempsey's 82nd-minute header held them to a 1-1 draw at west London neighbours Fulham last night.

Frank Lampard had put Chelsea ahead from the penalty spot to score his 150th Premier League goal.

Earlier, Norwich City emerged from White Hart Lane with a surprise 2-1 victory, and after the game Spurs manager Harry Redknapp admitted his club must win all their games to secure a top four finish. "We have got to look to win all five really," he said.

In-form Newcastle kept up the pressure by beating Bolton 2-0 to record a fifth consecutive league win, and move into fifth. Hatem Ben Arfa and Papiss Cissé scored the goals. MORE

Pienaar inspires Everton romp

Everton go into Saturday's FA Cup semi-final with local rivals Liverpool buoyed by a 4-0 victory over Sunderland at Goodison Park yesterday. The midfielder Steven Pienaar, on loan from Tottenham, scored one and created two of the goals. MORE

Huth's header secures draw

Aston Villa went seven points clear of the relegation zone after after drawing 1-1 with Stoke yesterday, but it was a case of two points dropped rather than one gained as Andreas Weimann's strike put them ahead, only for Robert Huth to equalise. MORE

Saints go three points clear

Southampton moved three points ahead of their title rivals Reading, and six clear of West Ham after a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace. West Ham were held to a 3-3 draw with Birmingham City at Upton Park, while Reading make the trip to Brighton tonight. MORE

Balotelli faces ban of nine matches

Mario Balotelli will find out today if he faces a potential nine-game ban – a decision dependent on whether referee Martin Atkinson tells the FA if he saw the Manchester City striker stamp on Alex Song during Sunday's defeat to Arsenal. MORE

After coming third in this year's Masters, yet again falling short at a major tournament, a determined Lee Westwood says he will win a major one day – when he resolves his putting issues. "When I do [improve putting], I know I'll win. It will happen." MORE

Bahrain GP could be cancelled again

The 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix, which is due to take place on 22 April, was in doubt yesterday after it was reported that team sources had suggested a cancellation would not be a surprise. Last year's Bahrain GP was cancelled owing to political unrest. MORE

Huddersfield stay ahead of the pack

Huddersfield stayed top of the Super League after a full Easter Monday programme, beating Hull 22-4 at the Galpharm Stadium. Wigan are second in the table, on points difference from the Catalan Dragons, after beating Wakefield 36-6 at the DW stadium. MORE
