Terry set to retain England captaincy
John Terry will remain England captain while he awaits the outcome of a Football Association inquiry into his alleged racist abuse of Anton Ferdinand. England coach Fabio Capello plans to pick Terry for matches with Spain and Sweden next month. MORE

Andy Flower has admitted to failures in England’s preparations for the ODI series in India, which the hosts won 5-0. “Obviously we all weren’t good enough,” the coach said. “We’ve got to look at our selection, our training methods and take lessons from that.” MORE

City continue on goal trail to storm into quarter-finals
Manchester City picked up where they left off on Sunday, thrashing Wolves 5-2 last night to make the quarter-finals of the League Cup for the third time in five seasons. Nenad Milijas put Wolves ahead after 18 minutes only for City, making 11 changes from the side that won 6-1 at Manchester United, to score three times in four minutes through Adam Johnson, Samir Nasri and Edin Dzeko. An own goal and a second for Dzeko extended the lead, before Jamie O’Hara pulled a goal back. A late equaliser from Louis Saha took Everton and Chelsea into extra time at Goodison Park, after Salomon Kalou had put the visitors ahead with a fortuitous first half strike. Chelsea also suffered a third red card in two matches as Ross Turnbull was dismissed for fouling Saha. Substitute Petr Cech saved Leighton Baines’ resultant penalty. MORE
Suarez at double as Reds defeat Stoke
Two Luis Suarez goals helped Liverpool beat Stoke 2-1 and inflict the hosts’ first home defeat in 10 games. Kenwyne Jones had opened the scoring. Newcastle scored twice in injury-time to force extra time at Blackburn, the tie level at 2-2 after 90 minutes. MORE
