Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has admitted to his frustration at not being able to spend in the transfer window. "Yeah, yeah, this is the problem," Mancini replied when asked whether he had been told he could not buy. Uefa's new Financial Fair Play rules will likely hinder his plans to make the additions he sees as necessary. "But if we don't have the players, it's tough for us," Mancini said. "We are not United. The difference is this. United and Chelsea have won trophies for many years. So they are quiet. They understand that they can play without pressure. For us it's different. This could be the first championship for many years and we need to do everything we can to win it." Mancini did insist City "could take in one player", with the club interested in Roma's Daniele de Rossi. For now, though, they are down to two available central midfielders and one fit striker for Sunday's FA Cup game with Manchester United. Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko are both struggling with injuries, while Yaya and Kolo Touré have to go to the African Cup of Nations. MORE
