Adebayor's history with Arsenal can inspire Spurs: AVB

Andre Villas-Boas wants to use Emmanuel Adebayor's bitter history with Arsenal to inspire Spurs in tomorrow's north London derby at the Emirates.

The Spurs manager is set to start the striker, pictured, against his former club, hoping he will be fired up to make an impact. Villas-Boas said: "I suggest to make the most of it we can use individuals' motivations and that is why we used Adebayor also in the game versus [Manchester] City last week."

Villas-Boas gave Adebayor his first league start of the season in last week's defeat to City. Adebayor scored for Tottenham against Arsenal last season and is still given a tough time by their fans after his move to City in 2009.

Villas-Boas said: "But hopefully it can have an positive effect... but it can [also] have a negative effect. So last year he scored from the penalty spot and had a good game and this is the type of revolt and motivation for matches like this."

Jermain Defoe is a major doubt after spending the week training alone in a bid to get over a hamstring injury. MORE

Olympic silver medallist Laura Robson, who has climbed to world No 53, is targeting gold at the 2016 Games. "I've already got Rio in the back of my mind," she said. "Hopefully in Rio I can go one [medal] better." MORE

Luis Suarez insists his long-term future is at Liverpool, despite being linked with a January move to Manchester City. The striker, who has four years left on his contract, said last night: "It's a dream come true to be playing at a club like Liverpool."

Chris Ashton will be relieved to return from suspension to face Australia at Twickenham tomorrow, and is desperate to end his 13-month scoring drought. The 25-year-old England wing said: "I do think about it [the drought], though, and it's beginning to kill me." MORE

Australia coach Robbie Deans heaped praise on Stuart Lancaster's England team ahead of tomorrow's Test. Deans, who has made four changes to the side who lost to France six days ago, said: "There aren't too many challenges greater than playing them at Twickenham." MORE

Senegal may stop Cissé playing

The Newcastle manager, Alan Pardew, hopes the Senegal FA will not stop Papiss Cissé playing in tomorrow's game against Swansea. Cissé missed his country's friendly with Niger, leading the Senegal FA to threaten to stop him playing five days after the international game. MORE

Martinez explains Liverpool rejection

Roberto Martinez rejected Liverpool, who his Wigan team face tomorrow, after Wigan's agreement to invest in a new training ground persuaded him to stay. He said: "It took the chairman a week or two to think about it. Then, he was as excited as I have ever seen him." MORE
