Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Andy Flower, England's head coach, yesterday supported Stuart Broad for his decision not to walk after being caught at slip in England's first Test win over Australia.
Broad, on 37, went on to make 65, a difference of 28 which proved vital in a pulsating contest England won by 14 runs at Trent Bridge on Sunday.
While the players of both England and Australia appeared relaxed about the issue, Flower, above, stood up for his bowler and admitted he has made the decision not to walk regularly in the past. "When I played cricket I didn't walk if I'd edged it, so I'd be a hypocrite to say all other players should walk," he said. "Most players leave it to the umpires to make the decision and I don't think there's anything wrong with that."
Darren Lehmann, Australia's coach, said: "The DRS has improved the decision-making process. Both sides have the same issues. We've got to get better at using it."
The decision of the umpire Aleem Dar to give Broad not out was not reviewed by Australia because they had already used their two permitted referrals.
