Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Wayne Rooney has revealed that his dissatisfaction at Manchester United last season began when Sir Alex Ferguson played the striker out of position in midfield.
The issue has now seemingly been remedied by the arrival of David Moyes (above), but Rooney did not mention Ferguson once by name at St George's Park on Tuesday.
Rooney said: "Everyone at the club knew that [in attack] is where I wanted to play and I think that's why I was disappointed because I got told to play in midfield and I didn't want to.
"But I'd always go in and try to help the team, so I think there had to come a point where for my own career I had to be a bit selfish, really."
That 'selfishness' was not explained in the press conference, but it would seem that was one of the reasons that he was prepared to leave United in the summer.
"I'm not going to go around saying I wanted to stay or I wanted to leave [United]," said Rooney, who scored 12 league goals last term. "I'll concentrate on my football and see what happens after that." MORE
