Hungry Hamilton savours debut Mercedes victory

Lewis Hamilton won his first race in a Mercedes at the 10th attempt yesterday, winning from pole at the Hungaroring with Kimi Raikkonen second and champion Sebastian Vettel in third place.

The Briton, right, dominated the race to take his fourth success on the track, equalling Michael Schumacher’s record and moving clear of Ayrton Senna. His success also continued the recent form of British drivers at the race, with six of the last eight Hungarian races being won by either Hamilton or a compatriot.

“This is probably one of the most important wins of my career with my new team,” he said. “I wasn’t expecting this. Driving for Mercedes is a real privilege and I’m very proud to be part of the team and hope there are more wins to come.” MORE

Weirwolf of London returns in style

David Weir brought a fitting end to the Anniversary Games weekend at the Olympic Stadium, powering home to take the T54 invitational mile yesterday by over 10 seconds. Elsewhere, there was also success for Hannah Cockroft, Libby Clegg and Richard Whitehead. MORE
