Dhawan flourishes before injury scare
India piled on the runs against Leicestershire on the first day of their tour, closing on 333-4. India’s only moment of worry came when Shikhar Dhawan, on 60, suffered a painful blow to his right arm, but a spokesman said there was no injury. MORE

Luke Shaw was reported to be undergoing a medical at Old Trafford last night ahead of a move from Southampton to Manchester United. This follows United signing of midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao. MORE
Nadal survives second Rosol scare
Rafael Nadal battled back to beat Lukas Rosol 4-6 7-6 6-4 6-4 yesterday, as the Spaniard avoided a repeat of his shock second-round Wimbledon defeat by the Czech in 2012. “If he plays well, it is difficult for everybody, not just me,” Nadal said. MORE

Suarez in legal battle over his four-month ban
Luis Suarez was at the centre of an extraordinary legal battle last night as Fifa gave him an unprecedented four-month ban from “all football related activities” after his bite on Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini.
The Uruguay Football Federation will appeal the ban but Liverpool are taking legal advice to establish, amongst other things, whether they also have grounds to challenge the suspension.
Suarez was banned for nine competitive international matches and fined £66,000 by Fifa’s disciplinary committee as well as being given the ban, which will prevent him from playing, training or even going into a football stadium. MORE
Germany and US ease through
Germany defeated the US 1-0 as both teams sealed their progress from the group. Thomas Muller scored the only goal in the 55th minute - the 24-year-old’s fourth goal of the tournament. The result meant Joachim Löw’s side topped the group, with Jurgen Klinsmann’s US finishing in the runners-up spot. MORE
Agony for Portugal and chaotic Ghana
Cristiano Ronaldo struck late on to earn Portugal a 2-1 victory over Ghana, but the result was not enough for either side to progress. Ghana went into the crucial final group game in shambolic fashion, after Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari were sent home for apparent indiscipline. MORE
Schneiderlin hears England’s pain
Morgan Schneiderlin says that England’s Southampton players acknowledged they felt “the pressure” in Brazil. “I spoke with some of them,” said the Saints midfielder, who is preparing for France’s round-of-16 contest against Nigeria. “Of course they are very disappointed but it’s football.” MORE
