Hospital worker struck by lightning

A member of staff at Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital in Bangor whose phone network was brought down by a storm on Saturday was hit by lightning through a window. The individual, who has not been named, sustained a hand injury and was treated by medical staff.

Airport gun attack kills at least five

Fighting was continuing last night at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport in Pakistan, after gunmen attacked the old terminal. National media reported that between four and 10 gunmen had attacked the building and a number of people are said to have died.

Le Pen rebukes her father on Jewish jibe

Marine Le Pen, leader of France’s National Front party has rebuked her father, party founder Jean-Marie Le Pen, for remarks that brought allegations of anti-Semitism. She said the remark about a French-Jewish singer had been misinterpreted.

Boy dies, father ill after farm accident

A father of three was in a critical condition in hospital yesterday following a farm accident that claimed the life of his eight-year-old son. Robert Christie, 52, and his son, also Robert, were overcome by slurry fumes on a farm in County Antrim on Saturday afternoon.

Recently freed after five years, Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl has reportedly told officials he was tortured, beaten and held in a cage by his Taliban captors in Afghanistan. The FBI has said the death threats received by Sgt Bergdahl’s family are being investigated.

Woman missing after yacht collision

A woman was missing at sea last night after a yacht was involved in a collision with a dredger a mile off Felixstowe in Suffolk. It is believed the missing woman, who has not been named, was wearing a lifejacket and may have been swept away from the scene.

The Taj Mahal is to be given a mudpack to remove yellow pollution stains. The treatment is to restore the natural sheen of the white marble monument in the city of Agra and is the fourth time the building has been given the makeover.

Kinks may do it again, Davies hints

The Kinks could reform to release a new album and tour, Ray Davies, has hinted. The band’s lead singer said he has spoken to his brother, Dave, with a view to performing together again. “I’d really like to write with him again,” he said.

Parents adopt hero son’s sniffer dog

A Texas couple has adopted a bomb-sniffing dog that was with their Marine son when he was killed in Afghanistan. The parents of Staff Sergeant Christopher Diaz adopted Dino after the animal was discharged from active duty.
