Lambeth Council in south London failed to shortlist Ursula Gregory for a post teaching ethnic minorities, although she had taught the class on a temporary contract for two terms, an industrial tribunal was told.
Mrs Gregory claimed the council short-listed less qualified and experienced applicants because a member of the selection panel was biased towards ethnic minority candidates.A hearing to determine compensation will be heard next Monday.
Mrs Gregory said she was "delighted" with the outcome. Lambeth Council claimed Mrs Gregory had failed to show sufficient understanding of equal opportunities issues. The Commission for Racial Equality welcomed the judgment.
