Diane Modahl claimed there had been 'material changes' to the B sample of her drug test, which showed she had nearly 42 times the normal level of the male hormone testosterone in her body. The British athlete has been suspended pending an inquiry.

Malcolm Brown, the British team doctor, supported her protests of innocence. Two British officials supervising the testing of the second sample in Lisbon also expressed concerns. The International Amateur Athletic Federation urged Britain to withdraw its women's team from next week's World Cup at Crystal Palace. Page 48
