Three hundred Liverpool dockers who called off a 10-day unofficial strike were told by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company in a full-page newspaper advertisement yesterday that they had lost their jobs.
The dockers, who were supporting 80 colleagues who had been made redundant, were set to return to work next Monday but have been told they must apply for a reduced number of jobs along with 1,000 applicants who replied to the company's advertisements in the Daily Post and Echo.
