Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Declutter and tidy
It is the perfect time to reorganise. Store away thick winter blankets, winter boots and make space for those spring items!
Swedish company string have innovative, flexible and minimalist shelving systems, which are easy to put up and totally customisable.
This means that if you want to create a library wall, reorganise your kitchen or hid away ugly files there are plenty of ways of doing so, without compromising on space.
Hang blackout curtains
The longer nights and lighter mornings can alter sleeping patterns. For a guaranteed good night’s sleep switch your curtains to those with a blackout lining.
Also consider the material, as the days get warmer Gareth Durbridge, creative director at www.curtains.com recommends linen curtains: “Linen is lightweight and a better insulator than man-made fibres. However, they are also well suited for both keeping rooms cool.”
He adds: “Their practicality makes them an ideal choice for windows that are frequently open during the warmer months.”
Reassess your lighting
Lighting doesn’t just have to be practical. At this time of year they are rarely used, which means it is more important than ever that they are making their own design statement.
The experts at VITA Copenhagen know that a light fitting should be suited to the room; A central, stunning pendant lamp is a key element to any interior design. Just like a piece of jewellery, it can create a powerful design statement.
“Consider style, shape, size and colour when choosing the centrepiece light in a room, that special lamp that draw attention and admiration,” says Søren Ravn Christensen, chief creative developer at VITA Copenhagen.
Update your bed linen
Based in Australia, Sheridan knows a thing or two about the right bed linen for the right season.
The firm offer a selection of linens which are perfect for entering the spring and summer seasons.
It says: “Our Master Weavers have created this unique linen marl by combining colour variations within the individual yarns prior to weaving.
"The result is a contemporary textured, soft fabric that yields to the touch, and yet offers all the properties of natural linen – warmer in winter and cooler in summer.”
