People with a strong appetite for salt may be more prone to cocaine and heroin addiction than those who avoid it, studies suggest.
Scientists have found that addictive drugs may have hijacked the same nerve cells and connections in the brain that served the powerful ancient instinct to search out and eat salt.
The research by a team of US and Australian scientists is published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
