Rubbish story offends Azerbaijan

THE AMERICAN publisher of Azerbaijan's first English-language newspaper said he pulled the debut issue from news stands after government officials complained. The front page of the Baku Sun, published by James Phillipoff, featured the headline "Humans Retreat as Azerbaijan's Rat Population Flourishes" accompanied by a picture of people sifting through a rubbish dump. Mr Phillipoff said that soon after the newspaper hit the streets he received a telephone call from the Communications Ministry, complaining about the articles.
