Pupil knifed outside school of headmaster's killer

Three schoolchildren were injured in two separate attacks on school premises yesterday - including one outside the school attended by the killer of headmaster Philip Lawrence.

Two boys were knifed and glassed by a gang of up to 18 youths outside the Quintin Kynaston School in north London, while a schoolgirl was stabbed in the chest with a pair of scissors at a school in Bromley, Kent. None of the injured pupils was seriously hurt.

Police investigating the lunchtime attack a few hundred yards from Quintin Kynaston School in St John's Wood - attended by 16-year-old gang leader Learco Chindamo who was convicted of Mr Lawrence's murder - said that the two boys were set on after a row.

A 14-year-old was stabbed with a knife while the second, aged 12, was hit over the head with a broken bottle.

The injured boys were taken to St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, where they were treated and discharged.

The school is less than a mile from St George's in Maida Vale where Philip Lawrence was stabbed almost a year ago as he tried to defend a pupil being assaulted by Chindamo's gang.

In the second attack, a 13-year-old girl from Deptford, east London, was taken to hospital after being stabbed with a pair of scissors during an argument at her school.

She suffered a double puncture wound to her chest in the attack at Pendragon School, Pendragon Road, Bromley. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

Scotland Yard said a 16-year-old boy, a pupil at the same school, had been arrested.

A spokesman for the London Borough of Lewisham, which runs the 133-pupil special school, said the incident was "unprecedented" and appeared to have been sparked by a row before the start of the school day.
