From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Police believe a man found hanged yesterday had battered his estranged wife to death and attempted to kill his son before taking his own life.

Kerry Sumner, 23, was found dead in her flat in Sheringham, Norfolk, with her 18-month-old son, Jordan, lying beside her with a severe stomach wound. Her 26-year-old husband, Toby Sumner, was later found hanged at his flat in Aylsham, about 15 miles away. Police said Ms Sumner had died from multiple injuries. It is believed that she was both battered and stabbed, and the boy was stabbed. Jordan underwent emergency surgery and was later said to be in a stable condition in hospital.
