He left pounds 1,000 each to the Church of St Barnabas and St Paul, Oxford, for religious and charitable work, and the John Radcliffe Hospital Cardiothoracic Unit, Oxford.

Mr Leslie Farrer-Brown, of Wokingham, Berkshire, Chairman of the Alliance and Leicester Building Society 1975-81, and the first Director of the Nuffield Foundation 1944-64, left estate valued at pounds 642,420 net.

Commander Richard Henley Torbock, of Penrith, Cumbria, former commander of HMS Chaser, left estate valued at pounds 3,336,232 net.

Mr Henry Powell Croom-Johnson, of Twickenham, Middlesex, Assistant Director-General of the British Council 1966-72, left estate valued at pounds 173,455 net.

Mr Basil Spoudeas, of Hale, Greater Manchester, left estate valued at pounds 2,016,825 net.

Mr Nigel William Lear Abbott, of Charlton Marshall, Dorset, left estate valued at pounds 3,584,259 net.

Mr Geoffrey Weaver Adams, of Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, left estate valued at pounds 2,235,116 net.

Edna Mary Brun, of Great Barr, West Midlands, left estate valued at pounds 841,183 net. After personal bequests of pounds 283,000, shares and effects, she left the residue equally between the Alzheimer's Disease Society, and the Elizabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys, Sidmouth.
