From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Vladimir Putin has the most improved reputation of public figures in 2015, according to a new YouGov profiles analysis.

Mr Putin’s reputation seemingly improved dramatically amongst British people mainly due to his handling of the Syrian crisis. At exactly the same time Russia began its bombing campaign in Syria, Mr Putin's popularity ratings shot up, according to the analysis.

In the public figures category Nick Clegg also had a huge improvement, with his popularity rating increasing by 25 points to minus 27. Nigel Farage also fared quite well, with his rating going up by 23, to minus 21.

The biggest faller this year was Labour MP Simon Danczuk, whose popularity rating fell by 41 points.

Unfortunately for the Labour party seven of the ten public figures who lost the most ground in 2015 are Labour MPs.

Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn and Deputy Leader Tom Watson are among the top 10, losing 20 points and 35 points respectively.
