From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Jeison Rodriguez, a 20-year-old man from Venezuela, has been officially recognised as having the largest feet in the world.

Jeison's feet come in at a huge size 18 in UK sizes (59 if you shop European), which is even larger than the feet of the world's tallest man.

In the video above Jeison describes how after turning 14, locals had to make his shoes out of trouser material. As this lasted only two to three weeks at a time however, Jeison often went barefoot.

Jeison began growing at an alarming rate after turning 10-years-old, forcing his parents to seek medical attention.

Doctors established that an overactive pituitary was to blame, causing him to reach a current height of 7ft 3in.

At one point his feet grew from size 5.5 to 11 in just one year.

Guinness World Records were first alerted to Jeison's enormous feet after a German specialist shoemaker, George Wessels, went to see if he could help. Wessels introduced Jeison to the record makers after making him a pair of shoes.

After being bullied for his abnormal size, Jeison now hopes to help people suffering from depression.
