From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Calvin Harris reportedly earned more last year than power-couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z, according to Forbes' Celebrity 100 list.

The pair, whose relationship was revealed only recently, brought in a reported eye-watering $146million (£92m) - in comparison to Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s $110.5m (£70m).

Swift, 25, who demonstrated her star-power earlier this week by forcing Apple into an embarrassing volt-face over their new streaming service, is worth a reported $200 million independently. Her latest album 1989 has also outsold her two previous albums.

Meanwhile, 31-year-old Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris – born Adam Richard Wiles – is worth $66m (£42m) , topping rankings of the highest earning DJs in the world since last year.

Both have incredibly lucrative sponsorship deals, helping to boost their musical earnings into the top bracket. Swift has a long-standing deal with Diet Coke, as well as Keds and Sony, while Harris has teamed up Giorgio Armani and Sol Republic headphones.

Forbes’ assessment of the top couples in the music business, this year including only the stars’ annual income, has been teased ahead of their main list, due to be released on Monday.

Only three couples, also including US country stars Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton, made the final list.
