From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference."Oh, it's so sad to think about the good times
You and I, cause baby, now we’ve got bad blood
You know it used to be mad love."
So sang Taylor Swift in her her 2014 hit Bad Blood.
And, as frequently appears to have been the case for the 26-year-old singer, so life has again followed art; on Wednesday it was reported that she and Calvin Harris, the Scottish DJ and her boyfriend of 15 months, had broken up.
USA Today reported that a source familiar with the situation but unable to comment publicly confirmed that the couple had split. Another source told People magazine: “There was no drama. Things just don't work out sometimes."
There was no official word from either of the pair, who had been dating for about 15 months. In March, they celebrated their one-year anniversary with pictures on Instagram of their vacation.
The 32-year-old Harris, whose real name is Adam Wiles, was recently injured in a car accident in Los Angeles. He was riding in an SUV en route to the airport to catch a flight to Las Vegas for a May 18 show when it was hit by a Volkswagen Beetle convertible, carrying a group of teenagers, that crossed the centre line.
In a recent interview with Vogue, when Swift appeared on the cover, she said she wasn't thinking of getting married, and was taking one day at a time.
“I’m in a magical relationship right now. And of course I want it to be ours, and low-key,” she said. “This is the one thing that’s been mine about my personal life.”
