Your support makes all the difference.Sir Elton John may have actually received a phone call from Vladimir Putin weeks after he was contacted by a Russian duo and fooled into believing he was speaking with the Russian President.
The singer said was looking forward to meeting with the President to discuss what he described as Russia’s “prejudice” against LGBT people after being contacted via telephone by Mr Putin earlier this month.
However, it later transpired the phone call was actually from two Russian pranksters, who led him on for 11 minutes with the intention of broadcasting the call on television.
Mr Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian news agencies Mr Putin contacted Sir Elton and offered to meet with him at some point, the Associated Press reports.
Mr Peskov quoted Mr Putin as saying: ”I know that those phone pranksters fooled you. Please don't be angry with them."
He added: ”Mr Putin also said that he understands how popular Sir Elton John is, so if their schedules permit, he will be willing to meet him in the future and discuss any issues that he is concerned about."
After realising he had been pranked, Sir Elton said he loved Russia and his offer to talk to President Putin was still on the table.
“If this unfortunate incident has helped push this vital issue back into the spotlight, then I am happy to be pranked on this occasion,” he added.
Sir Elton has not yet commented on the reported phone call from Mr Putin.
