Arsenio Hall is suing Sinead O’Connor for $5 million after the singer suggested Hall had supplied Prince with drugs for decades in a Facebook post.

On Monday, O’Connor, who sang Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U”, had urged investigators looking into how he died to question Hall. She also claimed he had spiked her drink at a party in the past.

On Thursday, the TV host filed a libel suit in a Los Angeles court against O’Conner for her post.

In his suit, Hall claims he has not had contact with O’Connor for over 25 years and barely had any relationship with her before that. He said her claims were “brazen lies” and “extraordinarily damaging”.

His suit states: “Desperate, attention seeker Sinead O'Connor has maliciously published outlandish defamatory lies about comedian Arsenio Hall, falsely accusing him of supplying illegal 'hard drugs' 'over the decades' to the recently deceased music artist, Prince, and of spiking her with drugs once years ago.”

Prince was found slumped in an elevator of his Paisley Park home on April 21. Officials investigating his death have enlisted the Drug Enforcement Administration.

On Wednesday, a doctor in California who specialises in addiction claimed representatives for Prince contacted him the night before his death to visit him for a “life-saving mission”. Anonymous law enforcement officials told the Associated Press opioid prescription medication was found on Prince and in his property.

The Independent has contacted representatives for O'Connor for comment. She has not yet had time to release a public statement.
