From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Sacha Baron Cohen has earned a place on Britain's rich list, amassing a fortune of £105 million.

The comedian who is best known for his roles as Ali G, Borat and Bruno, has joined the ranks of Britain’s super-rich and gained himself a spot on the Sunday Times Rich List for the first time.

The 44-year-old and his wife and fellow actor, Isla Fisher, 40, were listed as number 936 in the list which contains Britain’s richest 1000 people.

The BAFTA-award winning actor’s films have taken more than $3.4 billion at the box office, with Bruno and Borat gathering nearly $400 million alone.

Fellow actor, Mike Myers, who created Austin Powers, also made his debut on the list. The 52-year-old has an equivalent fortune of £105 million and is eligible because he has joint British-American citizenship.

Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton has been named as Britain’s wealthiest sportsman with £106 million.

Adele has been identified as Britain’s richest ever female musician after more than doubling her earnings since last year. Her finances have increased from £35 million to £85 million.

But the super-rich have taken a hit this year, with many seeing the largest fall in their wealth since the financial crash. The number of London billionaires dropped for the first time since the financial crisis – from 80 in 2015 to 77 this year.
