From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

S Club 7 enjoyed 12 top ten singles and four albums selling 14 million copies before the band split in 2003, months after Paul Cattermol, her former boyfriend, left the group.
Spearitt went on to appear in a number of acting roles and joined the S Club 7 reunion tour in May last year. The 34-year-old, who joined the BBC One drama Casualty in December, told The Daily Telegraph her best-paying jobs were as a singer in S Club 7 and as an actress in Primeval, a BBC science fiction drama.
While admitting she is now more careful with her finances, Spearitt appears to have invested hear earnings quite sensibly by buying property in London.
“I used it to buy my first ever house with Paul. It was a mews house in Crouch End with three bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, lounge and toilet downstairs. It was nice. We paid £375,000 and then sold it for about £475,000 after three years,” she said.
Spearitt said she also still enjoys royalties from her time in S Club 7.
“Things pop through all the time in terms of DVD sales from Primeval or royalties from S Club 7.
"You might get 57p or a couple of thousand. It really depends. You can’t rely on it, but it’s a bonus when it does come in.”
