From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have left hospital with their new daughter, giving the world's media and royal supporters outside the Lindo wing their first look at the new princess.

The couple smiled for pictures but did not stop to speak to reporters as they stood on the steps of St Mary's Hospital in west London with their daughter in the Duchess' arms, before returning inside and later reemerging to depart for their home at Kensington Palace.

Catherine gave birth to the baby girl at the Lindo Wing at the hospital in Paddington at 8.34am this morning. A name has not yet been announced.

Kensington Palace said the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the royal family are "delighted" at the birth.

A statement released by the pallace read:

"Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8.34am.

"The baby weighs 8lbs 3oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.

"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.

"Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."

The couple's first child, Prince George Alexander Louis, was born at the same hospital on July 22, 2013, weighing 8lb 6oz.
