From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

But, according to Gary Goldsmith, the Duchess of Cambridge's famously over sharing uncle, the royal couple are already thinking of expanding their family before baby number two has even arrived.
“I don't think they'll stop at two,” Goldsmith told Hello!, no doubt to the delight of the press team at Kensington Palace. “So if it isn't a girl this time around, people shouldn't be too disappointed.
“I'm sure there'll be a girl in the mix at some point. As long as the baby is healthy, that's the most important thing.”
If the spare heir is a girl, however, experts predict a potential surge of £80million in profits from merchandise and tourism.
And if keen betters correctly wager that the princess will also be called Alice, they could be set to earn themselves a cool £500K from the bookmakers.
The royal baby is due to arrive in the next week. The Duchess will give birth to her second child on the private Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital.
