From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The band released the following statement about the former guitarist and founding member, who played on their 1991 classic album Screamadelica and started the band with Bobby Gillespie in Glasgow in 1984.
"We have lost our comrade and brother Robert Young," it read. "A beautiful and deeply soulful man.
"He was an irreplaceable talent, much admired amongst his peers.
"In the words of Johnny Marr: 'Throb with a gold top Les Paul –unbeatable.' He was a true rock and roller.
"He walked the walk. He had "Heart & Soul" tattooed on his arm and I’m sure on his heart too. He once said to me 'when we go onstage it’s a war between us and the audience.' He never let go of that attitude.
"Our love and thoughts are with his sons Brandon and Miles and their mother Jane, his wife Rachel, and his immediate family.
"Bobby Gillespie, Andrew Innes ,Primal Scream."
Police were called to a report of a man who was found dead in a flat in Hove at 3.30pm on Tuesday (September 9).
"He has been identified as Robert Young, 49, of Hove. His death is not being treated as suspicious," a police source confirmed.
Young left the band in 2006 to come to terms with, as Gillespie described at the time, "problems in his personal life".
Tributes to the guitarist have already emerged on Twitter, including from Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, who wrote: "RIP Robert Young AKA 'Throb'. Live Forever LG x"
