Actor Rob Lowe has hit out after United States President Barack Obama met with a YouTube star but declined to have a face-to-face with Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu.
Lowe, perhaps best known for his part on political drama The West Wing, tweeted his million followers yesterday: “Hold up. Is it true that a woman who eats cereal out of a bath tub gets to meet with the President and the Prime Minister of Israel does not?”
YouTube star GloZell, a comedian with just over three million subscribers to her channel, was invited to interview the president following his State of the Union address.
She was one of three YouTube stars invited to the White House in the latest attempt to reach out to younger voters.
The tweet follows the announcement that president Obama has declined to meet with president Netanyahu when the Israeli leader visits Washington in March to address Congress.
A political and diplomatic storm has raged since it emerged that John Boehner, the Speaker of the House, had invited Mr Netanyahu to address Congress but that the Israeli president would not be meeting with president Obama.
Lowe’s post has already been retweeted over 5,000 times, but GloZell, 52, appeared nonplussed by his reaction, later responding: “Hold Up is this the guy who spelt Israel wrong?”
GloZell’s full interview with the president, in which the comedian made reference to the president's "first wife", has been viewed 89,000 times on the star’s channel.
In comparison a video of the comedian’s journey to the White House has surpassed 100,000 views, while a two-minute clip of “GloZell Fries the Turkey” – posted last month – has had a reach of over 200,000.
