Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. If anyone needed more proof of the gulf between the royal family and their subjects, they should look no further than the official pictures released to mark the third birthday of Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge - Prince George to you and me.
There are few situations where a boy standing on a swing and sitting with a family pet would form part of an official release of images produced by an esteemed photographer, carefully vetted by a PR team and distributed to media outlets across the world.
These images, taken at the Amner Hall family home in Norfolk, a more domestic setting than the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s opulent London apartment in Kensington Palace, have also been shared by the official Kensington Palace Twitter account - a sure-fire way of sending them viral.
A Kensington Palace spokesman said: “The Duke and Duchess hope that people will enjoy seeing these new photographs. They would like to thank everyone for all the lovely messages they have received as Prince George celebrates his third birthday.”
While he is enjoying the birthday excitement all toddlers do when turning a year older, Prince George’s life is worlds apart from that of your average child.
His photos were taken by Matt Porteous
The Duchess of Cambridge occasionally likes to defy convention by taking her own photos of her children for official release, but this year invited Porteous, an internationally renowned photographer, to do the honours.
His second birthday was captured in a series of toothy, sun-filled pictures with his royal parents by none other than Mario Testino, the leading fashion photographer celebrated by virtually every supermodel and fashion magazine in the world.
He is balancing on a swing engraved with ‘William and Catherine’
Prince William and Kate clearly like to make their mark on their home, to the extent that they felt inscribing their name on a swing enjoyed by their son was necessary.
One of his birthday presents in 2015 was a cottage on wheels
For the princely sum of £18,000. This year’s extravagant gift will likely top that figure.
He is often photographed in outfits that often evoke a sense of deja vu
And they should. The third in line to the throne is dressed in clothes worn by his father for various occasions which are retrieved from the royal collection. What other three-year-old’s sartorial choices are the work of esteemed designers and saved specifically for royal events?
His 'quotes' are already deemed newsworthy
He has only recently acquired language and yet already has an entire piece dedicated to his quotes, which include: “Mummy, can I fly the Red Arrow now?“
