Orlando Bloom had to pre-warn Miranda Kerr about the nude pictures of him paddleboarding ahead of their publication on a website.
The actor decided to go full frontal during his excursion with Katy Perry at an Italian beach earlier in August. Suffice to say, a number of pictures were taken, sold, and published and a search for the uncensored versions was soon underway. His image also made it to the front pages of The Daily Star and The New York Daily News, with Bloom completely naked on both bar a modesty box.
The model, who has a child with Bloom, told KIIS FM's Kyle and Jackie O that he contacted her to explain that some "embarrassing" photos were being released.
“Oh my God, he text me and was like ‘um, I'm really embarrassed, some photos are coming out, just thought I should let you know.' And I was like, hmmm… right, what were you thinking? Seriously?!”
“What were you thinking? Obviously, you weren’t.
“Cover up,” she joked. “Put it away!”
Wynter Mitchell (@wyntermitchell) “Pop Rocket” host, digital consultant and former entertainment editor for US Weekly, told the Independent bidding for the images started at $10,000 (£7,650) just for online publication.
“Revealing photos are always going to be a big sell," she said. "Pre-internet, you needed to frame the story. But these photos were sold, in my opinion, to be circulated by an online outlet without expectation of publication in a magazine. It's a cheeky play but it works when there is interest. But let's be honest, when isn't there interest?”
Bloom’s pictures sparked a sexism row as many questioned whether the overwhelming reaction to his pictures - calls for the uncensored images to be released - would be the same if they were of a nude high profile woman. He did not publicly comment on the pictures.
