Tom Daley is reportedly dating Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, who is almost 20 years his senior.

The 19-year-old Olympic diver, who came out as bisexual to his fans via a video message earlier this week, revealed that he is currently in a relationship with a man.

Now, several sources are claiming that the man in question is Black, 39, who is also a prominent LGBT activist.

The pair were photographed getting coffee together at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Hollywood.

Meanwhile, a friend of the sportsman allegedly told The Sun: “He's besotted with Dustin. They love each other and aren't concerned what anyone says about age difference.”

“Dustin is very proud of Tom for making such a powerful statement about his sexuality.

“They are officially in a long term relationship and are talking about having a future together.”

According to tabloid reports, the pair were introduced at the Soho hotel in London this summer, although Daley himself refers to meeting his new beau this spring.

Daley has apparently been flying between London and Los Angeles ever since.

Black won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Milk, the 2008 biopic on California’s first openly gay elected official, Harvey Milk.

Milk was assassinating in 1978 because of his stringent campaigning for gay rights.

Speaking to The Bay Area Reporter about his own experience of coming out in 2008, Black said: “I became intensely shy, I had thoughts of suicide. I was a pretty dark kid, because I had an acute awareness of my sexuality, and was absolutely convinced that I was wrong.”

The reaction to Black's revelation couldn’t be further from that of which Daley has experienced so far. The athlete tweeted yesterday that he’d been “overwhelmed by all the support”.

“Means the world! Thanks so much guys,“ he added.

Representatives for both Daley and Black have been approached for comment by the Independent.co.uk.
